Ah, February – love is in the air!  In celebration of Valentine’s Day and Congenital Heart Defect Awareness month, we’re bringing the best of both worlds together through a series of profiles about some of the Congenital Heart Center team members you know and love, in the eyes of their sweethearts!  We hope you enjoy getting to know the “cupids” among our faculty and staff!

Back in 1993, a nurse and a pediatric cardiology fellow working the night shift at the C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital Pediatric Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (PCTU) started to develop a friendship as they spent time together. U-M Pediatric cardiologist turns to social media to study HLHS treatment complications

When you’re dealing with a rare condition, conducting research can be challenging since the pool of study participants is so small. That’s one of the challenges Kurt Schumacher, MD, faced with his investigation of complications developed by some patients who have undergone a Fontan procedure, a heart surgery used to treat some congenital heart anomalies.
